Our Transitional Kindergarten Program is geared toward giving students ages 4-6 the developmental and academic building blocks they need to thrive in typical kindergarten and first grade classrooms.
Therapists meet 5 mornings per week with a small (2 - 5) group of children for our individualized, school-readiness program. The small size of our therapeutic classroom allows our experienced teachers to offer individualized, meaningful support with the intensity required to make a difference.
Such individualized support enables our students to regulate attention and emotions, build relationships, exchange ideas, play with purpose and share meaningful experiences. These are the foundational experiences that children without challenges have in typical classrooms every day. Through providing our students with the environmental and relational support they need to have these experiences, we prepare them to succeed when they re-enter typical classrooms for kindergarten or first grade.
The program’s approach is based on the DIR®/Floortime™ Model. The activities in the program’s daily schedule evolve and adapt over time to meet the students’ ever-changing needs, abilities, and interests. Activities are focused on motor development, sensory processing, and the development of each child’s social-emotional and learning capacities. Ratios of staff to children in the preschool program are never more than 1:2.
