Julie Herr & Associates is a pediatric developmental therapy center that offers assessments, guidance, and therapeutic services to families with children from birth to 8 years of age.

The Center was established in 2006 by Julie Herr, a state-credentialed Developmental Therapist, to provide families with information and to give struggling children the therapeutic relationships and experiences they need that lead to typical development.

Since the inception of Child Development as a field of study to the present day, the foremost scholars of the discipline– from Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Erik Erikson, to Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder – agree on one critical idea: It is through play, exploration, and relationships that children acquire knowledge. More recently, neurologists Margaret Bauman and Stuart Shanker have offered neurological evidence supporting this century-old body of research.
This is all to say that without the capacity to process and learn from everyday experiences, children with neurological and biological differences are unable to develop typically. Informed by this understanding, at Julie Herr & Associates, we believe that the only way to help a struggling child move toward a typical developmental trajectory is to give him or her the ability to learn from play and relationships. In order to accomplish this goal, we work closely with families to design treatment programs tailored to the needs of each particular child.
Our individualized Developmental Therapy Services prepare children to thrive in social and academic environments they will encounter at home, in school, and every day life. Through carefully calibrated interactions and relationships, therapists scaffold developmentally appropriate activities and child-led exploration. These critical experiences equip children with new understandings of the world and of themselves. They strengthen the children’s capacities for self-regulation, sharing ideas, and building relationships.
Our Families are supported in their decisions about home programs, childcare arrangements, and therapeutic treatment options. In addition to our developmental therapy services, we offer referrals and suggestions of other therapies, activities, and school programs that will support the overall goals for the family and child. We team with parents to refine our ever-evolving understandings of each child’s unique strengths and challenges. Sharing our observations and reflections when we meet with parents, we construct goals, provide tools, and guide families in how to best help their children flourish.
